Disneyland Closes Down Amid Coronavirus Concerns

Posted On: 03/13/2020

The “Happiest Place on Earth” has closed down for March 2020. The Walt Disney Company has just announced that Disneyland and Disney California Adventure will close at midnight on Friday, March 13, and remain closed through the end of the month due to concerns about the coronavirus.

While there have been no reported cases of coronavirus at Disneyland Resort, the company felt it was in the best interest of their guests and employees at this time.

This is no small act and will mark the longest closure in Disneyland’s 65-year history. The park has only been closed a handful of times since its opening including the national day of mourning after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy and the attacks on September 11.

This is the fourth Disney park to close after Tokyo, Shanghai, and Hong Kong were closed last month. However, hotels at Disneyland Resort will remain open until Monday, March 16, to give guests time to make other travel arrangements, and the Downtown Disney shopping district will remain open as well.

In addition to Disneyland closing, Universal Studios Hollywood also announced it would close their park and reopen on March 28. Knott’s Berry Farm, Six Flags Magic Mountain, SeaWorld San Diego, and Pacific Park at the Santa Monica Pier currently all remain open with no immediate plans for closing.
